3:10 to Yuma (#13)

#13 on TRAINS magazine's Top 100 train movie list.  Glenn Ford is Bed Wade, an outlaw who robs a bank and kills someone.  An escape is expected, and an armed guard is sought to take him by train to Yuma for the trail.  Struggling rancher Van Heflin takes the job, over his wife's worried objections.  Based on story by Elmore Leonard.  The train scenes were filmed on Southern Pacific's now abandoned Patagonia Branch in southeastern Arizona.  An SP Class M-4 2-6-0 was used, the largest single class of steam locomotives on the entire SP system.  It was built by Schenectady & Cooke between 1899 and 1901.
