Running a Steam Locomotive Vol. 1: Basics of Steam Locomotive Operation

A complete and detailed hands-on video portrait of the anatomy, care and running of the Iron Horse is presented on a full scale steam locomotive. Using a Baldwin 0-4-0 engine, the viewer starts out just like an apprentice crew member in the heyday of steam: working on a yard engine and learning all the basics of the science of steam locomotive operation. Included are video descriptions covering how the machine and its basic appliances operate, along with lubrication, trouble shooting and repairs. Also, the history of wheel arrangements, whistle signals, firing, stoking, cab control operation, boiler safety and much more are explained.
